Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography

Internship Description

Collect stakeholder needs and work alongside the engineers to design and create a dashboard to overview Cycle Time and improve production time.

Internship Duration

6 months

Who is ASML?

ASML (ASML Holding N.V.) is a Dutch company and a key player in the semiconductor industry, specializing in the development and manufacturing of photolithography equipment.

Lithography systems are sold to chip manufacturers such as Intel and TSMC. These companies use ASML systems to print integrated circuits on silicon wafers.

Chips made from these wafers are then used to power all your devices, from the latest iPhones, and computers, to your car, fridge and many other devices.

Cycle Time Dashboard

The new dashboard will allow the engineers of ASML to identify improvement opportunities

Engineers now have an overview of all procedures with system assembly including information such as down time

A new all-inclusive report, which satisfies the whole hierarchy, from the engineers to the managers

The project was given a total of 20 weeks to complete. This can be a very tight period for a project where you collaborate with dozens of stakeholders.

It provided a visual timeline, mapping out key milestones and phases from initial research to the final online implementation. The Gantt chart facilitated efficient planning and adaptation, ensuring tasks were appropriately timed and aligned. Its clarity and detail enabled the team to manage stakeholder meetings, user needs alignment, and design refinements systematically, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Working With The Stakeholders

In order to develop a dashboard which satisfies all, extensive research is needed

Collecting stakeholder needs is essential when developing a dashboard as these needs are what you aim to satisfy

Developing high level requirements based on stakeholder input will allow the dashboard to satisfy user needs

"Your first idea is never your final idea" is a quote to summarize the iterative process for this dashboard

Starting with an already existing (But poorly maintained) Cycle Time dashboard allows for the stakeholders to give criticism and suggest areas of improvement

Creating new drafts and presenting them to the stakeholders allow for consistent improvement to the dashboard

Iterative Process

Publishing the dashboard on the ASML's intranet is how the engineers will access the dashboard

To do this, collaboration across multiple teams is needed. Which includes clear and thorough communication, a business plan breaking down the value added to the engineers, and backend programming to connect the dashboard to the database
